Decide what one week means for your offer

A weekly rental sounds simple until a customer asks when the item must come back. Before configuring a package, write the promised duration, collection time and return time in ordinary language. Rentshelf supports fixed duration options, including week-based offers, so the storefront can present a defined package instead of asking the customer to invent a rental length.

This works well for a product normally hired for a predictable period, such as a project kit or travel accessory. Start with the packages customers already ask for. Too many near-identical options can turn a clear weekly offer back into a pricing puzzle.

Configure duration and price as separate decisions

Open the rental product and review its duration options and pricing configuration. Define the desired package length and label, then verify the intended price. A duration label describes time; it should not be used as a substitute for checking the pricing mode and saved amount.

For example, a “1 week” option and a “2 weeks” option may have different commercial pricing. The second package does not have to be described as a discount unless its actual price supports that claim. Save the configuration and select each option on the storefront to inspect the dates and resulting quote.

Keep physical quantity separate from rental length

One kit rented for a week is one physical kit reserved for that period. Two kits for the same week need two available units. Customers and staff should be able to see the difference between duration and quantity throughout the booking journey.

Test the same package with one unit and two units. Confirm the displayed rental amount and stock behavior, and inspect the booking details after checkout. This catches errors that a single-unit example would miss and helps the warehouse prepare the right number of items.

Write the pickup and return explanation

Put the handoff details close to the package description. State the relevant pickup and return times and explain whether delivery or preparation time affects the customer’s use of the item. Avoid describing a package as “a full week of use” if your actual handoff leaves the customer with a different expectation.

Buffers protect operational time between rentals. Treat them as part of inventory planning and explain the customer’s own booking period clearly. If your store limits collection weekdays, test a weekly package against those rules so that the proposed offer fits the days your team can serve.

Run a package acceptance check

Choose a representative start date, then try another near a month boundary and one near a restricted period. Confirm that the duration choice produces the expected date window and that unavailable stock is not presented as freely bookable.

Check product page, cart and checkout before promoting the package. Then review the booking record from the staff perspective: can someone identify what is being prepared, for how many units and for which dates without interpreting a marketing label?

  • Select every package and compare its dates and quote.
  • Repeat with multiple physical units.
  • Test the selected product variant where relevant.
  • Try dates near a blackout or availability boundary.
  • Check deposits and add-ons when enabled.

FAQ

Can I offer a weekly rental package on Shopify?

Yes. Rentshelf supports fixed duration options for defined rental periods. Configure the option alongside the pricing settings and verify it on your product page.

Is a seven-day rental a quantity of seven?

Rental length and physical quantity are different. A customer booking one unit for a week needs one physical unit reserved for the selected period.

Should I test more than one start date?

Yes. Test a normal date and dates near month changes or availability restrictions. Review the resulting window and quote for each package.
