Start with a specific demand period

A rental business rarely sees the same demand every week. A camera kit may be in greater demand during graduation season, while outdoor equipment may have a quieter winter period. Seasonal rental pricing lets you reflect those differences without repeatedly replacing the normal price of every item.

Rentshelf supports named pricing rules with start and end dates in the rental product configuration. Begin with one product and one clearly defined period. Record why the period needs a different rate, the dates it covers and who will review the rule after the season ends. This gives your team a repeatable decision instead of a collection of unexplained price changes.

Choose an adjustment that matches the offer

The seasonal pricing configuration supports percentage adjustments, daily prices and fixed prices. Choose the type that fits the rental pricing model and check the resulting quote. A percentage promotion communicates a different offer from a replacement daily rate or a fixed package price.

For example, you might plan a holiday period with a higher daily rate and a separate quiet-season offer. Treat these as planning examples, not a promise about the total for a particular booking: duration, applicable rules, units and other configured charges all need to be considered. Avoid stacking several overlapping rules until you have checked how the chosen combination behaves.

Configure and name the rule

Open the rental product in Rentshelf and find Seasonal pricing within the pricing settings. Give the rule a useful name, enter its date range and adjustment, then save. A name such as “October school holiday” will be easier for colleagues to review than “Rule 2”.

Seasonal pricing is available on Starter and Growth in the current product configuration. Review the plan page when deciding whether the feature fits your catalog. Set the normal price deliberately as well: customers booking outside your special periods still need a sensible baseline.

Test the edges of the season

The most useful checks happen at the boundaries. A booking fully within a special period is only one case. Also try a booking outside it and one spanning the start or end. Review the quote produced by your actual daily or package configuration rather than assuming the entire rental receives one rate.

Record the selected dates, number of units, base rental amount and any separate charges. Compare the product page, cart and checkout so that a correct date rule also produces a clear buying experience.

  • Book entirely before and entirely inside the seasonal period.
  • Select dates spanning the start and end boundaries.
  • Repeat with more than one unit and a relevant variant.
  • Test any overlapping rule and any optional add-on.
  • Confirm that ordinary dates still use the expected baseline.

A higher rate does not close the calendar

A peak price changes the commercial offer; it does not tell the team whether stock is ready. If equipment will be unavailable for maintenance or the store is closed, use the relevant availability controls. Keep the two decisions separate when planning a holiday campaign.

On the product page, explain that prices depend on the selected dates and let the quote show the actual booking total. After launch, review customer questions and compare the season with your operating costs. A higher rate is useful only when the offer remains understandable and the team can deliver it.

FAQ

Can I change rental prices for a holiday period?

Yes. Rentshelf seasonal pricing lets you configure date ranges with pricing adjustments on eligible plans. Save the rule and test the selected dates on the storefront.

Should a seasonal rule block unavailable dates?

No. Use availability settings or blackout periods for unavailable inventory. A seasonal price rule serves a different purpose.

What should I test when a rental spans two seasons?

Check the actual quote for that date range and pricing model, including units and separate charges. Do not assume that a booking crossing a boundary has the same price as one entirely within a season.
