The short answer
Most people searching for a Booqable alternative on Shopify want one thing: to keep the Shopify cart, checkout and order list they already use. Booqable is a capable standalone rental platform, but its documented Shopify installation replaces those parts of your store. If that is the reason you are looking elsewhere, the realistic alternatives are apps that run inside Shopify. This guide compares four of them: Rentshelf, Product Rentals Pro, IzyRent and BookThatApp.
Rentshelf is our app, so read this as a comparison written by one of the options. We checked each competitor's plans on its official Shopify App Store listing on 16 October 2026 and describe only what those pages state. We did not run independent trials of competitor apps. Prices change, so confirm the current listing before you decide.
What changes when Booqable runs on Shopify
Booqable's help article on installing it on Shopify describes adding a Booqable script to your theme and removing Shopify's buying elements from product pages. According to that guide, the integration replaces Shopify's product management, shopping cart, online checkout and connected payment gateways, and orders and payments are recorded in your Booqable account. Shopify then mainly controls the design of the site.
That is a reasonable architecture for a business that wants Booqable to be its main operating system. It is a poor fit if your team relies on Shopify orders, Shopify Payments, discount codes, apps that read Shopify orders or a mix of sale and rental products in one cart. Write down which of those you depend on before comparing features. That list is usually what decides the shortlist.
Booqable's own pricing page lists Start, Grow, Scale and Custom plans with a free 14-day trial, billed separately from your Shopify subscription. Check the live figures there, because the plan you need depends on order volume and add-ons.
Four Shopify-native alternatives at a glance
All four apps below add a rental calendar to Shopify product pages and send the booking through Shopify checkout. They differ in what they limit on each plan: number of products, number of rentals or bookings, or how far ahead customers can book. The table summarises the official listings as checked on 16 October 2026. Monthly prices are in USD and exclude your Shopify plan.
| App | Free plan | Paid plans per month | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rentshelf | 3 rental products, bookings up to 15 days ahead | $9.99 Starter, $19.99 Growth | Products and booking horizon |
| Product Rentals Pro | All features, 10 total rentals | $19.95 Starter, $49.95 Growth, $89.95 Volume | Rentals per month |
| IzyRent | 3 products, 15 days on calendar | $24.99 Pro | Products and calendar days |
| BookThatApp | 10 total bookings, no product limit | $25 Lite, $49.95 Premium, $110 Business | Bookings per month and staff |
Rentshelf: physical product rentals with a fixed monthly price
Rentshelf is built for stores that rent physical goods and want bookings, pickups and returns in one workspace inside Shopify admin. The free plan covers up to 3 rental products with bookings up to 15 days ahead, daily, tiered and fixed pricing, manual bookings and a customer self-service portal. Starter adds up to 25 products, 90-day booking, buffer days and pickup and return reminder emails. Growth removes the product limit and adds 365-day booking, weekend and peak-day pricing, waitlists, rental agreements, multiple locations and Google and Outlook calendar sync.
Paid plans are not limited by the number of rentals, which suits stores with frequent short bookings. The tradeoff is that the app focuses on items rather than staff or appointment scheduling. Our plans page lists the current limits, and the Shopify equipment rental app guide shows the setup in practice.
Product Rentals Pro: priced by rental volume
Product Rentals Pro's free plan includes all features but is limited to 10 total rentals, which works as an extended trial. Starter allows up to 50 rentals per month, Growth up to 200 and Volume up to 500, with higher volumes on request. The listing highlights a customizable calendar widget, manual rentals created in admin with payment by invoice or POS, and default buffers that depend on delivery method, such as pickup versus post.
Security deposits, damage protection charges, upsells and SMS appear from the Growth plan. Because pricing follows rental count, estimate your busiest month before comparing. A shop with a few expensive items and long rentals will see different costs from one renting dozens of short bookings a week.
IzyRent: one paid plan with external calendar sync
IzyRent has a free plan with 3 products and 15 days on the calendar, and a single Pro plan at $24.99 per month with unlimited products and calendar days. Both plans list automatic blocking of booked dates, discounts and special rates, deposits and pay later, add-ons and booking requests, plus Google, iCalendar and Airbnb connections. Reminders appear only on Pro.
The calendar connections matter if some of your bookings arrive outside Shopify, for example a holiday rental listed elsewhere. If every booking starts in your store, that feature carries less weight, and the simpler question is whether one plan at that price fits your catalog.
BookThatApp: rentals alongside services, tours and classes
BookThatApp covers a wider range of bookings than physical rentals. Its free plan allows 10 total bookings with no product limit. Lite at $25 per month allows 50 bookings, 1 staff account and 1 booking type, with POS support, booking fields and Google Calendar. Premium at $49.95 raises that to 350 bookings and 10 staff and adds deposits and SMS. Business at $110 allows 1,000 bookings and 20 staff and adds API access.
Consider it when the same store sells guided tours, lessons or appointments as well as rentals, and staff time is a resource you must schedule. If you only rent items, staff accounts and booking types may be capacity you pay for without using.
How to choose and test before switching
Start from your limiting factor. If you rent many products but have modest volume, compare product limits. If you have a small catalog with many short rentals, compare rental or booking limits. If you also schedule people, compare staff and booking types. Then install one or two candidates on a development or test theme rather than your live store.
Run the same test in each app. Create one real product with variants, a deposit and a buffer. Book it for overlapping dates from two browsers and confirm the second booking is blocked. Complete checkout, then find the order in Shopify and check that the rental dates, deposit and customer details appear where your team will look for them. Finally, record a return and confirm the item becomes available again.
If you are moving existing bookings out of Booqable, export future reservations first and enter or import them before switching the storefront. Our spreadsheet migration guide explains how to move live commitments without losing dates already promised to customers.
- List the Shopify features you must keep: checkout, payments, discounts, order apps.
- Estimate products, monthly rentals and booking horizon for your busiest month.
- Test overlapping dates, deposits and buffers in each candidate.
- Confirm the rental appears correctly on the Shopify order.
- Move future bookings before switching the storefront.

FAQ
What is the main difference between Booqable and Shopify rental apps?
Booqable's documented Shopify setup replaces Shopify's cart, checkout and payment gateways, and records orders in Booqable. Shopify rental apps such as Rentshelf, Product Rentals Pro, IzyRent and BookThatApp add a booking calendar to Shopify product pages and use Shopify checkout.
Is there a free Booqable alternative for Shopify?
Each of the four apps in this guide lists a free plan on its official Shopify App Store page. The limits differ: Rentshelf and IzyRent limit products and booking days, while Product Rentals Pro and BookThatApp limit total rentals or bookings.
Which alternative is cheapest for a large catalog?
It depends on volume. Rentshelf Growth and IzyRent Pro list unlimited products at a fixed monthly price. Product Rentals Pro and BookThatApp price by monthly rentals or bookings, so their cost rises with order volume rather than catalog size.
Can I keep selling regular products next to rentals?
With an app that uses Shopify checkout, regular products and rentals stay in the same Shopify store and order list. Test a mixed cart in your chosen app before launch to confirm how dates and quantities appear on the order.
How do I move existing bookings away from Booqable?
Export future reservations before changing anything, enter or import them into the new app, and only then replace the storefront booking flow. Check that every promised date is blocked in the new calendar before accepting new bookings.
